The 7 Steps of Creating Effective Presentations

Jeroen Ketting held the on-line training “The 7 Steps of Creating Effective Presentations” on October 16 at 12:00 noon (MSK).

Below you can find the summary, feedback and the video registration of this webinar.

My friends and colleagues often ask me for help when they need to give a speech, present a report, hold a webinar or conduct an important meeting.

They ask me because they know I give trainings in this field and they hope to get some free advice They also ask me because they know I have abundant experience in expressing my thoughts in TV, radio and print interviews, and as a presenter and moderator at conferences, seminars and webinars.

I am glad to help them because talking about effective communication is something I truly enjoy, and because each time I help someone I learn something new myself.

One of the things I learned is that my friends and colleagues never ask for help when things seem to go smoothly. They turn to me when they are stressed out because they lack time, information, inspiration, and control.

The next thing I learned, is that most people cannot answer the basic questions about the presentations they have to give. The 5W2H questions. What, Why, Who, Where, When, How and How much. Or in other words: “what is your presentation about, what is the event about, what is the program of the event, who is your audience, what effect do you want to achieve with your audience, who are the other speakers, why do you speak at this event, how long is your presentation, when are you scheduled to speak, how are you going to present, what are your resources during preparation and execution, and so on.

Luckily, I have also learned that, in spite of the stress and lack of direction that my friends and colleagues experience, it is relatively easy to get them back into the driver’s seat of the process of preparing for their presentations.

As it turns out, it only takes 7 steps to make a success of any presentation.

1.Answering the important questions about your presentation

2.Formulating your main idea

3.Creating the right argument to present your idea

4.Creating a structure or storyline

5.Writing your presentation effectively

6.Preparing conscientiously

7.Presenting consciously

No matter how much time you have to prepare, no matter who your audience is, and no matter how important your presentation is, when you take these 7 steps in a disciplined manner you will give a better presentation than when you do not follow these steps and try to wing it.

Become the Hero in You

“A hero is not an extraordinary person in ordinary circumstances. A hero is an ordinary person in extraordinary circumstances.”

(“Hero” from the Greek word “heros”, meaning “protector” or “defender”.)

In this series “Become the Hero in You!” Jeroen Ketting shares his experience of dealing with hardships in life. He explains how “stories that we tell ourselves” shape our lives. How by changing the stories we tell ourselves, we can turn our lives into victorious story of the hero that lives inside each and every one of us.

“Becoming the Hero in You” is an invitation to find those sparks of brilliance inside ourselves and fan them into flames of extraordinary action. And by doing so making a difference to ourselves and to the world around us.

This introductory video get-together to the upcoming series has attracted the audience from all over the world, namely from Russia, Sweden, Netherlands, USA, UK, India and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Positive feedback and attendance has spurred Jeroen on to move forward with this topic. We hope our series will encourage you to handle the difficulties that life can sometimes impose on us with courage, faith and self-belief.

Value Based Negotiations Trainings

Jeroen Ketting’s Value Based Negotiations training focuses on understanding negotiations, identifying the benefits of conflict, understanding negotiation challenges, developing crucial negotiation skills and mastering a straightforward negotiation method.

Value Based Negotiations training helps you to become a better negotiator by:

  1. Increasing your awareness of what negotiations are and what benefits conflict brings you.
  2. Improving the personal skills all good negotiators need, and
  3. Introducing a straightforward 6-step negotiation method that can be applied to any negotiation situation.

A 4-hour theoretical session will provide you with the knowledge, tips and tricks that will enable you to have better negotiations right-away.

The theoretical session can be followed up by an optional one-day practical session with exercises, role-plays and real-life cases. Trainees can bring in difficult cases from their own experience and practice these cases during the role plays.

Trainees rate this training “5-star” on a 5-star scale because of the following reasons:

  1. The training provides a method and a way of thinking that is applicable to all kinds of negotiations and to all kinds of negotiation styles and character types.
  2. “Ketting is more of a business mentor than a trainer or coach. He shares his own business experience, successes and failures for the benefit of the trainees instead of merely teaching theory”.
  3. Ketting allows for active discussion and participation and uses examples proposed by the trainees for the theoretical training.

Value-Based Negotiations teaches negotiators to understand the value of their negotiation position, to set clear goals, to focus, and to work along a clearly defined method. The training helps to increase the negotiator’s confidence level.

Value Based Negotiation training is designed for senior managers who have regular exposure to different kinds of negotiations.
